RESTORING THE SOUL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

On April 25, Tania Leontov spoke at the Adult Forum, explaining the mission and opportunities available through Restoring the Soul.

Restoring the Soul is an organization dedicated to improving social capital through community and faith partnerships. Social capital is the concept that we are all connected and benefit through mutual experiences of trust and caring. Our religious community and the larger community are strengthened by building social capital. Externally focused churches with strong internal capital have the capacity to build bridges into the community and become agents of transformation. Tania explained that these “bridges of community” can be created by volunteering with the many service organizations existing in Boulder County. Volunteer opportunities are available to individuals as well as groups. According to the Restoring the Soul website, current priority social issues among social service agencies include:

Risk behavior in youth
School dropout rates and general school difficulties for Latino youth
The discrepancy between costs and income, particularly for the working poor
Isolation and abuse in the growing elder population
Homelessness
Medical insurance and treatment availability
Immigration
Rising demands on basic needs services

Possible volunteer opportunities may include delivering food to home-bound seniors, becoming a mentor to at-risk children or ministering to battered women, among others. For more information on Restoring the Soul, call 720.304.6446, or use their website: www.restoringthesoul.org.

WHAT ABOUT IMMIGRATION REFORM??

Are you confused about what you hear versus what you wonder and feel as a Christian about immigration reform? It’s a hot topic right now and opinions are freely shared among people with whom we mingle. After two failed attempts at reform in the last decade, our nation has been living with the consequences of a broken immigration system.
