First Reminder

Dear Friends:

A good September begins in August!

The weekend of August 27-28 will set the stage for September . . . and for the next several months of our ministry together. I hope that you will come and participate! Our theme for the year, focusing on the “end point” of our congregational mission statement, is “Reaching Out to the Wider Community.”

On Saturday, August 27, we begin with one of our outstanding annual community events, Harvest Fest. Thanks once again to the First Lutheran Men’s Fellowship for putting this together. Our location this year will be at the Henson home, 14512 Weld County Road 1. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m., and go on into the evening. Tickets for the meal ($12 adults, $6 children) are available now. There is always a bounty of food, including sweet corn! There will be children’s activities and a special musical group to cap off the evening.

On Sunday, August 28, another way to reach out in service will be available at the church. Bonfils will be on hand to receive blood donations that day. Please sign up on the sheet outside of Wendy Wagner’s office or drop in to give blood.

Another key way in which we reach out to the wider community is through inviting one another (and newcomers, friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, etc.) to worship. This is an important practice to continue to develop, because many of us are “out of the habit” of inviting, and may even succumb to our culture’s notion that religion or faith is mostly a private affair.

On Saturday and Sunday, August 27-28, we encourage everyone to invite others to join in worship, as we “Celebrate the Ministry of Teaching, Mentoring, and Learning.” Our worship services, at 5:30 Saturday evening, and Sunday morning at 7:40, 8:30, and 11:00 a.m., will provide many opportunities to recognize fellow students, teachers, and mentors who are our companions in the walk of life. During August we are providing postcards which can be hand-delivered or mailed to others in order to invite them to this special day.

We plan to honor teachers (both in church and in local schools), students, and mentors who share their skills and guidance with us. We also want to invite participants and leaders in the many educational ventures that are hosted in our church building.

Another aspect of the day (especially during the two later Sunday morning services) will be to recognize important milestones in our midst. One group will be the three-year-olds who are about to start Sunday School. This year we will also recognize 6th and 7th graders who are beginning their youth ministry and confirmation years. We want to celebrate and bless these youth and their households as they enter into significant years of growth in Christian community.

Thank you for inviting already in August, as we look to a good September and a blessed year as people together in Christ—

Steve Berke, Pastor
