The Transition Task Force (TTF) would like to thank everyone who participated in the recent Listening Post Gatherings. We continue to meet and work through developing our Mission Site Profile (MSP) that will help guide the Call Committee and congregation as we seek new pastoral leadership. Gathering information and providing an overview is an essential task of what the TTF is currently working on and thought that it would be good to provide members and friends of First Lutheran an update on the comments and key areas identified by the nearly 100 members who gathered at the three gatherings in late August. The key discussion topics at those gatherings were the following;
- What are our core values?
- What do we do well?
- What are some areas we can improve?
The top three core values had a rousing consensus from all three of our meetings. Worship, hospitality, and outreach are what our church holds dear. Other items that received quite a few votes were support, music, education, and tradition. We will be incorporating these values in a survey that will soon be available to all members to give us further information about issues and focus for First Lutheran Church as well as the final MSP.
Unanimously, everyone believed that we do worship and music very well in our congregation. Hospitality and youth programs came in a close second and third. A few other highly voted items were community, traditions, our amazing facilities, education, stewardship and our health program.
Even among things we do well, there are always areas for improvement in striving to share the word of Christ and support the community through our congregation. Many felt that although we do very well in worship, it is still an area in which we can improve. Tied with worship was outreach to members in the community and the congregation. There was also concern about member involvement, education, our membership levels, our stewardship/finances, and the diversity of our church.
Again, thank you for all the input we received on these important questions. As mentioned the Task Force will be issuing out a congregation wide survey in a couple of weeks. We will have it available to take online and on paper. Time will be set aside for one Sunday school session for everyone to fill out the surveys. They will also be provided after services or in the church office to take home and fill out to be returned back to the church. This is another important step in gathering information about our congregation and our goals. The information from the listening post meetings will be incorporated in the survey so we can delve deeper into our values and learn where members and friends hope to see our congregation go in the future with our Pastoral leadership.
As always, if you have any concerns, opinions, or just want to chat with the Transition Task Force we are always happy to hear from you! Please continue to check out the newsletter, website, and in service announcements as we keep you up to date in the process of calling a new senior pastor.
