SOCIAL MINISTRIES

A heart for Christ in the heart of Longmont - WE ARE A CONGREGATION OF SERVICE AND SUPPORT

Social Ministries are one of the very dynamic ministries at First Lutheran. In reality it is not just one ministry but many. Opportunities to serve range from those within the local church to service internationally. Our ministry falls into three categories:

  1. CHURCH WIDE MINISTRY
  2. NATIONAL MINISTRY
  3. LOCAL MINISTRY

Each area of service provides many volunteer opportunities that allows you to "live your faith in your community".

LOCAL MINISTRY

Local Ministry is our strongest area of social ministry. We host over 60 different community organizations. This involvement happens in three areas:

  • Support
  • Partnerships
  • Collaborations

We have programs serving individuals and families from the cradle to the grave. Come be part of God's "Servant Ministry" at First Lutheran. Some local volunteer opportunities are with:

Red Cross, Boulder County Hospice, Longmont Community Justice Partnership, YWCA LIfeskills, Rotary, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, St. Vrain Valley Parenting Center. S.A.F.E. Center, Packt to School Program, After School Tutoring Program, YMCA Preschool, YMCA full day kindercare, Healing Circles, Boulder County Diversion, AA, Overeaters Anonymous, Debtors Anonymous, Al-Anon, Teen MOPS, ESL, Longmont Interfaith Quilters, Los Padres, Assets for Youth Longmont, and the OUR Center.

Christ's ministry was one for the whole person and the whole community. At First Lutheran we live our faith by reaching out into the community in many ways and providing multiple volunteer opportunities for the congregation and for you. Staff Contact: Steve Nelson steve.nelson@firstluth.org

CHURCH WIDE MINISTRY

These are ministries that are sponsored by the church nationally, or our own Rocky Mountain Synod, in which we at First Lutheran participate. Programs such as World Hunger Relief, Lutheran Family Services, Campus Ministries, Call to Service, and Casas por Christo, are ministries which we primarily support financially, though our participation involves some volunteer opportunities also.

NATIONAL MINISTRY

As with Church Wide Ministries, National Ministries are broader in scope and usually associated with national organizations that First Lutheran partners with in various ways. Organizations such as Lutheran Brotherhood, and Aid Association for Lutherans who have merged to form Thrivant, are benevolence organizations working with the church to provide money and volunteer time for projects ranging from disaster relief to youth services programs, help for the handicapped to projects with Lutheran Educational Institutions. We also actively collaborate with agencies such as Assets for Youth, Red Cross Disaster Relief, United Way, Joining Hands Day, and Habitat for Humanity.
