Ryssby Candlelight Worship Services

December 12 & 13, 2026

Don't miss the annual tradition of celebrating Advent at the beautiful Ryssby Church, adorned with candlelight and resonating with wonderful music. This year's Ryssby Candlelight Worship services will be held on:

Saturday, December 12 at 4:00 PM, 5:15 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:45 PM
Sunday, December 13 at 4:00 PM, 5:15 PM, and 6:30 PM

Each year, the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado, proudly hosts the Ryssby Christmas Candlelight Services at the historic Ryssby Church, a landmark established by Swedish settlers in 1878. This cherished tradition, which began in 1938, brings together a series of seven services over the second full weekend of December. Attendees can look forward to music from the First Lutheran Chancel Choir and other musicians, traditional Christmas carols, and the Christmas Story, as told in the Gospel of Luke, read in Swedish.

Saturday services will be conducted by Pastor Todd Hawkins, and Sunday services by Pastor Stephanie Kopsch of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont.

HOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS:

Starting Tuesday, November 17 at noon, reservations open to the public and can be obtained online at Eventbrite by clicking HERE! If you prefer, you may also submit the Reservation Request Form included in the Weekend Reminder and return to the church office or email Peggy Shupe at peggyshupe@outlook.com or call Peggy at 303-638-0036.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVED reservations are required for entry and will be limited to 175 reservations per service. Last day for reservations will be Saturday, December 12th at noon. Please get your reservations in early!

Welcome to First Lutheran in Longmont!

If we look a bit flat on your screen, be assured that we are entirely three dimensional saints and sinners in this church. And the saints and sinners part comes straight from our 16 th century ancestor Martin Luther who imparted on us that we, the people of God, always live within the grace of God, regardless of how much we mess up. (And trust us, we do. With some frequency.)

In our life as the people of God, we seek to follow Jesus of Nazareth. On some days, that’s a joy. On others, it’s easier said than done. But we are in community and remind each other not to take ourselves too seriously, but to take seriously the journey that we are on. So if you, too, are on a journey, or simply are longing to be on one, come and see. As always, there will be bread and wine shared in Communion, and water for baptism and oil for healing, and we’d love to share these gifts of God with you.
